A few years ago I bought myself a coffee machine. It was pretty expensive and I wanted to make sure it would be used enough to make up for the big price tag. Since then I have used it basically every day.
It also seemed a good chance to set myself a personal challenge - I would teach myself how to do Latte Art. I had seen heaps of stuff at cafes and on the internet etc and always found it was pretty cool how people could make pictures by just pouring milk into coffee. So I did some research and started practicing. It was kind of nerve racking pouring each cup because I knew if I stuffed the pour I would have to wait till the next day to try again.
I gradually got better and eventually I was, more often than not, pouring something that looked half decent and was photo worthy. After a few months, I had quite a collection of photos.
I still practice my latte art and take photos today. I'm glad I set myself the challenge and worked towards being able to what I can pull off today.
